Who wants some burger?

So I'm currently trying to memorize writing and recognizing all the katakana. If you don't know yet, katakana is a part of Japanese alphabet which is mainly used for foreign and borrowed words. Just like what you can see in the image I posted above. Can you guess what's written? It reads:

Mc Donald (マクドルナド) - Maku Dorunado
Haso Burger (ハソバーガー) - Haso Baagaa

I'm not actually sure about the 'haso' part of the second line though.

Anyways, as I said, I'm still into the katakana which I find rather harder to write compared with the hiragana (or at least I find this rather more boring) since these ones are composed of more rough strokes. After finishing this then maybe I'll go for a transliteration mania with the names of my friends for practice. *evil laugh*

Howzaaa?!

First of all, I'll introduce myself. I'm Darren, though you must can call me by my Blogger username Potsu, which I derived from my childhood nickname with a 'lil touch of Japanese for the sake of relativity to this blog. And 'coz I think it sounds cool.

The purpose of this blog is to be some sort of a personal log to my progress in learning the Japanese language or Nihongo (日本語). Which brings us to the lame title of the blog; Trilingual Challenge.

Since I'm a Filipino which studied here in the Philippines, learning the English language together with our own language has been part of our educational curriculum from the moment you start studying. So basically, English is our second language. And yes, I'm an instant bilinguist. Then here goes my fancy for this another planet called Japan.

Well, I don't know if it has something to do typographically but growing up here in the Philippines, you'll be pretty much exposed on Filipino-dubbed Japanese animated shows (anime). I grew up watching classics like Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Detective Conan and much more. Then when I was like 15 I discovered Japanese comics (manga) via the internet. At first I though it was just some sort of ripoff until I found out it was actually the original material of almost every anime I loved, derp. But that didn't persuade me enough to read them.

Then there came a time when I (with my bro) marathoned the whole 500+ episodes of my now favorite manga One Piece. When we caught up we're like, damn. So I decided to try reading it's much ahead manga. That was when I started reading them. And now, in all honesty, I'm into manga more than I'm into anime.

If you're a bit confused, I was addicted to reading manga. And if you have noticed, I'm really the "original piece" type of person and this manga I read are obviously derived via scanlation. That's when I decided I should learn my "third" language which is Nihongo. But of course, there were other things that made me realize that but a huge part of it was my desire to be able to read original Japanese comics. And alas, we arrived at the point of this blog!

I'm currently just self-studying via free resources you can find in the internet, though I plan on enrolling to a formal class whenever I start to earn my own money. So this blog might actually help other people who wants to start learning Nihongo since I will be siting references and my method of studying.
